Evening all

Saw guys doing aquaponics on Doomsday Preppers but wasn't to interested until I read I can do some trout. Currently winter and spring starts September so will do some goldfish and tilapia until next winter.

Bought myself an IBC and busy doing a Chift Pist hybrid. Sump (old dustbin) is under the horizontal pvc pipe stand.

3000 lph pump with 40mm pvc pipe all around. So far so good.

Bell siphon standpipe 25mm (what a mission to get 25mm anything) with 25mm-50mm reducer, 75mm bell. Busy testing second bell siphon 25mm standpipe, no reducer and 50mm bell.

Taking extra long getting it setup with a toddler assisting :P

Will be replacing the 90degree on the slo with a t-connector. Will reduce the top to 20/25mm and bending it back into the fish tank. This should recreate the siphon and thus increased over flow, but prevent a permanent siphon which could empty the tank.

Cheers
Francois

Hi Francois,

Yes you'll need to replace that 90 degree elbow with a "T" to stop the tank from the possibility of fully siphoning all your water, and I would drill a lot more holes in the bottom of your SLO to allow for a faster water flow up through the SLO.

The ideal flow is to turn over the volume of your fish tank once an hour.

Redone the SLO fitting. Busy running the system and fixing all the leaks.

Will hopefully start cycling in 2 weekends.

My local supplier (Koialami) should have Mozambique tilapia in September.
