Perlite in ap.

Hmmmmm.

Me thinks More research required.

Perlite actually works great in AP :)

Sure I can see that it would, in controlled conditions, not in my backyard though.
Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I've got perlite in my DWC, I've been experimenting with it. I found that seedlings don't germinate in it well, but if you put seedlings in it, it works just fine. Just seems to attract algae.

I've been using a mixture of 50-50 vermiculite and perlite, and it seems to work quite well, seeds germinate and grow quite well in it.

Sorry Medium, back to your question.

I honestly don't think you'll get enough aeration from just filling from the top. The anaerobic bacteria thrive in the areas, and you'll end up with more dead fish. But somebody might correct me on that.

Another reason I suggested the media bed, you don't need to worry about the air, something like a flood and drain system will give you all the air you need (barring power outages, in which case you should have a backup air system.).

Thanks for all your help guys & especially Columnmn!

I would be really interested in checking out your system, PM me some details if you have a spare moment. Not up to much this long weekend so far.

I've made my filter now and the ammonia levels have already dropped after 3 hours to 0. I used 2.5m of shade cloth in a 15L container. Going to get a bubbler to put at the bottom as recommended tomorrow.

Fingers crossed all thing go.

Just letting you know the system is working well with the shade cloth bio filter.

The only problem is i have some nutrient deficiency. Not sure if it is magnesium or something else.

Any experts out there?

Its not unusual to see deficiencies this early on, prob more so the way your system is designed.
