I heard about aquaponics for the first time in the fall. I was very interested in the idea and have been reading everything I can find on the subject (very happy Google is free). I am hoping to get started in the next month or so with my 8th grade daughter. My thought is to plan big but start small, so that the "get your feet wet" system can be integrated with little change.

I am located just south of Savannah.

Welcome.

It is addictive, trust me. I just recently started on my system. Like you, I'm planning on going big, eventually. Good luck, read all you can, then read some more. I've been doing tons of that, and still have loads of questions. I have found that the people here are more than happy to help, and it's well appreciated.

Once you start your build, it makes some things make sense, yet opens up all kinds of new questions.

You're only an hour north of me. After we're both set up, I wouldn't mind seeing your system, and you're more than welcome to come down. Things do seem to make more sense when you can see them up close and in person.

Once you do start, please post up some pics.

Have fun, and again, welcome.

Thanks Lizard.

I have a "concept" question. I have seen many systems that are CHIFT PIST, but I was wondering if it would work (or even make sense) to drain from GB to FT, FT to Solids Tank (with shrimp to eat the solids), then pump from Solids Tank to GB. Very rough drawing below.

Wisdom of others is always appreciated.

Hello,

Just looking at your concept you will need more grow beds/media for bacteria growth. And it might just be me... but if these are your building materials, I would use that large tank for the fish, cut the IBCs into media grow beds, and use the barrels for media/filtration.

Do you have experience with shrimp?
