Hi all,I'm Paul married toTerri with a 3yr old daughter Amy,we enjoy kayaking,boating,cycling and outdoor fun,have had birds,reptiles,dogs,rabbits,turtles,fish,now just have a sulphar crested cocky(ben)a bearded dragon lizard(bobby)and a merten's water monitor(rex) and a little kitten for Amy called (Tinkerbell) as most of what we want to do is to get Amy hands on and gives her things to do and and make progress on growing things,but i'm not very good or hands on when it comes to growing thing's as my dad says should of payed more attention when he was showing me things.Well we are looking at growing our own strawberries,carrots,celery and some herbs,also looking at starting up some yabbies at this time but keep getting differant info as some say need to heat water,can only keep 2 yabbies together and they are very hard to breed so i have been down to local creek to catch some but didn't see one and have been told cant catch yabbies in winter time,so that put the brakes on that then.So will look around this site and pick up some pointers and lots of information.

I know a couple of things about yabbies so I could help you out with that when you get going. About september onwards is a good time to trap yabbies as it warms up. The reason for this is that yabbies burrow in the cooler months and go into a type of hybernation.

You can really only stock around 10-ish per 1m2 floor space. I have said a few times before to members and I remain firm on the belief that yabbies can only really be an addition to AP. The buggers eat the fish, and the fish eat them.... and they eat each other.

Personnally a couple of yabbies in the bottom of the FT just to clean up scraps is good but if you want them for the kids... throw one in an inside aquarium.

You dont need to heat water for yabbies although they thrive in the warmer months as this is when they eat and grow best.

The pet shop in Kadina had yabbies a few months ago for around a dollar each but don't know if they still would.. maybe somewhere closer by might.. I saw a couple at aggies in parooka last week but they were very blue and about $50 each..

Yep.. they had a couple of 4" tandanus for $43 each too..
