Greetings,

My first post and it is to one closer than 20 miles to me - or must be. I am living in Tolar, Texas and it is about 60km SW of Fort Worth, Texas. I am getting the parts together for a small AP system. I hope to have both flooded beds, some floating beds and a film system just to see what works best.

I shall try to put in Tilapia if I can do it 'legally'. If not, I'll just have 'fish'.

Ron

Not really ... we don't have to be quiet, we didn't surrender our weapons here ....

Actually I have discovered a lot of similarities between folks in OZ and Texans. I think our general trust of government is on the same level, if below negative is a level (I am speaking in general terms, not necessarily reflecting my own beliefs).

This site is real wealth of information. Most of it is quality and I have been enjoying it all.

Right now I am working on sprouting seeds and getting some bacteria going to convert ammonia to nitrates. I plan on buying a 1/2 hp pump today and probably a timer and/or figure a relay setup so I can do a proper flood/drain system. Hopefully, I can get the biological end 'jump started' and avoid any fish kill.

Is there a place here where one can 'dump' files of the sort that got me interested in Aquaponics? I first read of the TX A&M (Texas Agriculture and Mechanical College) project in the Virgin Islands that had a 16m circular tank and grow beds. I have not 'relocated' that PDF and would like to read it again now that I am getting conversant in procedures.

Anyway, back to my reading (and reloading empty cartridges from the last revolution).

Ron

Ron

This pdf has more links than you can jump over, some you have to pay for some are for free. TX A&M are in there.

Hey Ron,

We are very close. You are west of Granbury and we are east. Great to have you hooked on AP. You are very welcome to come visit and see what we have going and the new system that's just getting started. My husband won't rest much until his part is done. I'll PM you more info.

Hi DG, I spoke with my father-in-law in Sweetwater and he would like to make contact to share info on the AP setups. It sounds like a Texas get together might be in order eventually. I will PM you with the particulars.

dthawk, sounds great!
Everyone that sees or hears of our little system is fascinated and/or interested in starting one. Our friends here on the forum are great sources of info, but it is also nice to have friends that have similar climate issues.

Let's see if I can resurrect a four year old post. :)

My name is Patrick and my wife and I just took over The Salvation Army here in Arlington TX. We have a transitional shelter and will be opening a large youth program within the year. We saw the AP system running at Trevecca Nazarene University and really feel it would be a great project for us. The shelter residents would learn about sustainability, they would be raising food they could eat, the youth would learn about the advantages of the system. And on the backend, we have advisory board members who own restaurants just in case we end up with too many fish or produce. :)

So we're in learning phase right now while we seek funding and approval for the project. I would love to see some systems first hand if any of y'all in the DFW area still have them up and running. I think I'm set up correctly so that you can email or PM me.

Thanks in advance!

Patrick
