Hi all,

I am new to aquaponics. I played around with a few ideas, methods and settled on a fill / drain system using an IBC container. The system has been up for just about 30 days. I am raising tilapia that I caught in a friend's pond and am initially growing a variety of lettuce per the suggestion of a local hydroponics store.

Everything appears to be going well excepting a very high nitrate level. I posted to the fish board with the hope that somebody can offer some help.

I'm glad to find this forum.

Keith

High nitrAte means add more plants. High nitrITe means add sea salt to reduce effect on fish and don't feed until it is 0 (or close too 0).

Thanks for the info.

In my single days, my buddies and I would go on river camping trips. It saw a bit of fishing back then but has since been retired. It doesn't get much use anymore....since the kids.

I love paddling/fishing in your area…there is some of the best scenery and snook in the state. If you ever make it up this way {right off of 95 in Malabar} PM me to stop by for a visit.
