Hi there
I am currently in Nepal although my home is Brisbane Australia. My wife and I spend 6 months of the year here helping out in a Tibetan orphanage in Pokhara that houses 70 kids. At this time a number of the boys are at school leaving age with few or no prospects of getting a job or becoming independent. The orphanage is totally dependent on donations to survive.
At the moment they grow vegetables in a large garden plot, and have 2 pigs which they will sell when grown and 200 chickens that supply eggs. We recently met a guy called Bill in Kathmandu which is a great place to meet and talk to perfect strangers and found that he was running an Aquaponics system and school in outer Kathmandu. Sounded interesting so we went out there and took a look (I had never heard of such a thing before). Once I have permission I will send photos if that works out. Needless to say we are hooked on the idea of setting up a system in the orphanage. There is plenty of room, the climate is good although we are heading into winter, and we are masters at scavenging for cheap building materials.
I am looking forward to planning the system and comparing info with you guys as the project develops. Can't wait to start my own system at home in Brisbane when we return in early December.
