Backyard Aquaponics
A place to discuss aquaponics

Hello all, I am a teacher in North Texas located just outside of Dallas proper. I have a background in aquaculture, though that was with marine species... I have recently become interested in the methods of aquaponics and I am looking into these systems both to use in my classroom, and also on a semi-commercial scale in my backyard.

I would love to meet anyone else in this area that has any knowledge of AP. So if you are anywhere near Dallas, please let me know.

The system I am currently designing is going to be about 1500 gallons total and will most likely house tilapia and several species of vegetative and fruiting plants... Not sure yet, we are still designing it.

Welcome to the forum GP. Not really all that close, but if you make it down to Houston there are a couple of is here that would be glad to show you what we are doing.

Post your designs and there are plenty of expirienced people here to help!

As you learn about AP in the near future, don't be surprised if your plans change... oh, three or four dozen times.

And I hope you don't mind if we ask you a few questions about aquaculture as well... since you let THAT cat out of the bag.

WOW -- RS that is a great system.... I would love to make a trip down to see that... I might even be able to squeeze it in this weekend - if your available... I would love to see it first hand.

Maybe later this summer I can make it down to the Houston area to take a look at ya'll down there...

But thanks for the welcomes, I will certainly be adding to my system at my school and soon to be building a system on my property (just gotta wait for the sale to close officially!)
