hey all,
awesome forum, been lurking here a week or two reading up as much as I can.

i read a brief article about AP on a gardening site somewhere and was instantly interested, a quick google search for 'aquaponics canberra' popped up a pretty cool blog so at least it's possible here! I used to do some hydroponics a few years ago and enjoyed that, and I like the idea of being able to eat fresh fish. Especially liked the rapid growth of the plants in hydro and our soil is pretty awful plus with water restrictions it sounds like a win win situation to try AP.

I'm keen as to give it a go and I think i've gathered enough knowledge from here and a few other sites to start. We're living in a pretty small townhouse and I don't have enough space (or money) at the moment to build a big system so thinking of putting a small DIY setup together (250l FT or so) with bits and pieces to see how I go. Also haven't kept fish before and as it's gonna get cold here pretty soon i figure something that can run a small number of gold fish could be a good starting point. Hoping to move into a bigger place in the next year or so with more space so if I get hooked by then hopefully will have the knowledge and experience to get right into it.

cheers,

Al.

Welcome MA
No need to limit yourself because of money there are lots of systems throughout the forum that utilise " begged, borrowed and permanently loaned components. Once you set your mind to it and start seeking bits and pieces they will start to turn up in all sorts of places. My own belief is that it is important to utilise waste that would inevitably end up as landfill and what a plus using waste products to provide fish and food
Good luck with your system

haha thanks guys!

yeah i plan to give it a red hot go, it's not the cold that concerns me so much as the temperature fluctuations we're so reknowned for here. silver perch sound like a goer once i get a bit of experience up.
