You may want to add a little support to the backside of that growbed before adding gravel. Like a couple of 2x4's. And if you sank the Fishtank 1/2 way into the ground your growbed/s wouldn't be so high and you would get the advantage of the earth's thermal mass to help keeps the water temps more stable.

Welcome. I grew up outside St. Louis.
for metric conversions, 1 in=2.54cm or more roughly, 10cm=4in, 3m=10ft.

lots of good info here; I cycled with humonia too, and threw a couple minnows from a nearby creek in. I lost 16 fish after adding about 30+, but that was due to pH fluctuations. Since stabilizing that, I've had healthy, hungry fish.

With Metric conversions, for our American cousins, especially when comparing fluid volumes, be aware that 1 US fluid gallon = 3.785 litres (= 128 fluid ounces = 231 cubic inches.)
But in Australia, when we refer to a Gallon, we use an Imperial Gallon, which is = 4.546 Litres.
A big difference if you get them mixed up!

I have moved my system in to a small greenhouse.
I am going to add some growbeds and am wondering
about going to 16" deep beds instead of 12".
This would increase my growbed to fish tank ratio
but do not know if this is a good way to go.
Has anyone tried this or know if this would work.

Carrie,
They are called IBC : International Bulk Containers (not Industrial Bulk Containers as some people think). They come in 1000 Litre as normal, with an all round protective, reinforced metal cage. If you are looking for some, make sure that they are Food Grade Plastic (Generally don't use black or grey plastic; it is normally not food grade!) and have not contained harmful chemicals if they are second hand. Just Google up IBC and find a distributor in your area or Ebay for 2nd Hand perhaps.
Cheers IanK
