Hello! My name is Jeff Pernell and I am very excited to be part of this growing trend for self reliance and home grown food. I run a Montessori Middle / High school in Kalispell, Montana. I started doing research about aquaponics for one of our school's projects.

I've just got word from our state Fish and Game department that I do not need a commercial fish farming license and all I need is an import permit. My vertical grow wall prototype system (60 gallons / 6 - 8 fish) is almost complete and I hope to order the Tilapia soon. The "big" system will have about 1000 gallons and to start will have about 120 fish. I've seen online where the density is much greater.

I look forward to sharing my experiences with you, and more importantly I appreciate any advise you may have for me.

Peace and best regards.

Jeff

Welcome! Personally, my advice would be to read the long members' systems threads. It's a good way to gain vicarious experience of the myriad issues that pop up from time to time.

Also, I would do fishless cycling.

Again, welcome!

What a fascinating building concept Jeff!

A question comes to mind for a Greenhouse... How will they manage light? Growlights?

Welcome!!! :D

Welcome Pikeman! I'm assuming that you have a warm place for your fish in the winter? The will live in water under 60 for awhile, but they'll die if it gets under about 55 or so.
