I figured I would start a thread for talks of a state side AP conference so we wouldn't hyjack TCL's thread for that purpose. I love the Idea and I have a lot of large pots and have done benefits Jambalaya's and Pastalaya's for 1-200 people. Really a 3-4 person cook team can feed a few hundred folks a lot easier than you would think. Lots of thoughts on the subject would even be nice to move from state to state. Just a quick the state parks have pavallions to hold the events and some even have cabins and RV parking. Maybe we can get something going this Spring or Summer!!

BR BILL, That would be nice. Lots of details to work out. Your right about the cooking...a few people, with some experiance can feed a lot of folks.

Agreed about cooking, I have volunteered a few times at church functions where 3 or 4 of us cook for 120-200 people or more.

The last camping trip we took was to a private campground called Jellystone. They are littered all over the US. It is a Yogi Bear themed park with TONS of activities for kids. All tent sites have electric and water. RV hookups and even cabin rentals.

Anyway - keep the families in mind when planning location. Some of us have little ones - and dogs.

I've been to a Jellystone it was nice. We used to live in a travel trailer in a campground (starter home) for a year and a half.

It sounds like the South has most of the members these days, and I'd welcome an inexpensive trip for an AP meetup sometime in the Summer! Would be nice to include some fish and plants-related side trips like to fish farms, university research labs, nurseries, etc??

I agree on keeping families in mind so school timing is a factor also.
I'm a single parent and drive my youngest to and from school everyday and to some folks their dogs are their kids to them.
Would need to get the word out in time enough to get a really good turnout also. Some Banners would also be nice (jt hint hint)
and Tee shirts. Maybe the cook food themed per the host state like Texas bar-b-que, Louisiana gumbo, etoufee, or jambalaya, Florida mullet just kidding I guess we can have a vote on location

I too have been to Jellstone parks and yes they are nice and kid friendly and yes inexpensive. I agree on the side trips that would be great! The place where TCLinx gets her fingerlings don't they have ap classes??

What, you wouldn't want to have it in MN?

I think moving it around the country is wise - otherwise you will just get the same dozen people or so every year - although you look at something like Oshkosh (aviation wise) and there is a certain benifit to being homed somewhere. Asked the wife about Orlando this summer and got the thumbs up!

The place I got my original batch of Blue Tilapia was Morning Star Fishermen and yes they do teach aquaponics workshops and stuff (I've never attended one though, they run raft culture.)

The place I get my Catfish (and other fish are available there) does not teach classes, they are a regular pond based fish farm that provides fish for farm pond stocking as well as selling koi.

I no longer work at Disney and therefore can't get anyone into the parks anymore so I'm no help there.

I expect Florida will get a vote at least one year and I suspect Somewhere in TX is gonna be a likely stop but there are some other places that might be more comfortable for summer camping in my opinion.

Autumn is nice but close to the holidays...and hunting season! Last June was a scourcher in Louisiana 105f...
I know the song about April showers but March is usually wetter and last April was not. So Late April-Early May...???

Texas or Florida...Lots of good things to see and do both places.

Actually summer camping in Texas is not so comfortable. I know a lot of people camp in the summer here, but camping season starts in October for me. I would rather it be a little on the cool side as opposed to the hot Hot HOT nights we can get. Fishing on the other hand is excellent that time of year. So far most places mentioned are all on the Gulf Coast, so a charter fishing trip might be an activity too!!!

Oh ya, make sure sminfiddle brings the strings, he might be humble but I get the impression he can play the he11 out of it!

I'd love an AP get together somewhere in the SE.
