The magazine contains all sorts of information. If you download the first free edition you can see the style of information and articles. http://byapmagazine.com/BYAP_Magazine_Issue1.pdf None of the articles are taken from the forum, though some forum members systems are showcased in the mag, and some forum members have written different articles for the mag. I'm working on a new website for the magazine, not quite finished yet, but there's some information about the other editions and the articles contained within. www.byapmagazine.com/ |

I think it's absolutely fantastic to see Backyard Aquaponics growing! I have not been to the site for awhile. Congratulations, Joel and everyone else. The magazine looks great. I'm going to take the first version with me on a disc to the school I'm working with...they'll love it. Great beginner info for the kids and myself. I just had steelhead trout tonight for dinner. It was delicious...however it did not come from any AP setup. I bought it at Sam's Club. I'm sure you're all familiar with those warehouses! The first thing I said to my husband is "I wonder if these would work in an aquaponic setup". Lo and behold there the fish is on the 3rd edition. Is that a coincidence? There are no coincidences. I think the kids should try farming edible fish (versus goldfish and koi) to accompany the greens. |

Hi Pamelarose, glad you like the mag. There are already at least 6 schools around Perth here in Western Australia that we have an supplied an aquaponic system to and they are growing edible fish and veges. The teachers love it because they can teach the children so much on so many different levels including integrated science, health, biology, horticulture and aquaculture. Anyone that has kept trout will be sure to do it again because they are so easy to keep, friendly and fast gowing, they taste pretty good too. |

Aloha All Susanne and I just wrote an article for the Backyard Aquaponics magazine about "System Startup: How to establish a robust and healthy aquaponics system FAST!" It was fun, and we'd be happy to do more. If anyone would like to suggest a subject, question or questions for us to respond to in a next article, we'd be happy to oblige. Joel, I know I asked you, but also thought it might be OK to poll the forum members about their interests too. Sorry we've been too busy to participate on the forum, we got an account with Costco (a local large wholesale grocer) for 800 pounds of organic lettuce mix per week and have been gearing up for that, plus it's been the worst winter in 32 years, with ten times the normal rain, and temperatures 15-20 degrees F colder than normal. Everything's foggy, moldy, gray, and cold. Nothing's been growing worth a darn, and we don't have time or money this year for the greenhouses we're going to have over the aquaponics by next winter. |
