Just as a matter of interest...
I would like to know the highest reading of Ammo anyone
has had and the fish survived?
The water temp and pH would need to be mentioned
as both have an effect on the Ammo dangers!
Thanks
C1

Nah not scared, the ammo seems to be calming down a tad.

That was the temps, PH was mid 7's as always, so far.

That was a very short lived spike, as my system had already cycled, umm lets just say a bit too much humonia :D

Shyte I thought you were talking levels of ammo,
in the 20's and low 30's.
and for a minue I was thinking all was good.
However, since that was the temp
and I have now had a closer look at the levels in the pic.

heh, usually have to wait for the colours to develop, these appeared straight away, would have been way off the scale, didnt bother to do a 50% test.

IV, fish that are in high ammo and survive may be more easily susceptible to disease and stunted later on..............:( its like slowly rotting your lungs ;)

i HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE KEEPING MY AMMO DOWN AND MY PH UP. FROM WHAT i HAVE READ THEY ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD A FEW TIMES OVER BUT THE TROUT ARE DOING FINE.i TRIED THE 50% TEST AND THE AMMO WAS STILL OFF THE SCALE.tHE PH WAS 4.8 AND THE TEMP WAS 18.The nitrite and nitrate levels were almost nil. While the fish were doing well the plants were all dying.changing a considerable amount of water only lasted a few days.
The yabby tank next to it was getting water from the same tank(rain water) and wasn't registering ammo and the ph was around 7.8.

At that temp and pH... you've theoretically got a wide margin for ammonia....

But at that pH.... it WILL be detremental to your fish.... will kill your plants and will probably prevent the system from processing... hence no nitrites and thus no nitrates....

Regardless.... do an immediate 50% water change... add some calcium carbonate to buffer the water...

And then tell us exactly what's different in your tank that forces the pH to that level, while the yabbie tank stays where it is....

Actually... come to think of it.... just how are you measuring your pH....

The Master test kit only reads to pH 6.0.... are you using "strips"...
