hi guys I'm back in action, moved house a few years back and only managed to relocate a single IBC system to the new house and then another 4-5 years to get it set up again. Today I planted out the growbed. I'll add some photos soon and start a proper system thread but I've got a quick question. I filled my system with tank water from an old household tank which is one of the existing tanks from the house estimated 15 years old. While the system was filing I did some water tests. And came up with what I believe is pre cycled water results. Attachment: IMG_20190420_125918.jpg [ 120.08 KiB | Viewed 21507 times ] so is it possible that my old tank water already has a cycle biofilter system in it and the water is pre cycled. |

Seems so to some degree Bundy. The fact nitrates are present can only be a good thing. |

ive planted some vegies out in the growbed and will give it a few weeks to settle and test again. ive added seasol and will wait for my tank clarity to come back again. |

>> ive planted some vegies out in the growbed and will give it a few weeks to settle and test again good idea, that will help to make sure. the plants will be fine on the Seasol during that time. |

It will have a layer of bio-film around the entire inside of the tank. I have a 190L Olive barrel with a large Silver Perch in it, about 1.5kg. It has been in there for about 12 months, with no bio-filter or gravel grow bed, just a stand alone barrel with an airstone in it. The Amm level is 0.0ppm, I just have to do weekly partial water changes to keep the Nitrate level down. So I would imagine a large rainwater tank that's had water in it for some time will definitely have a certain amount of bio-filtration capacity, surviving off rotting leaves, dead bugs etc. |
