hi just had this question going on in my mind for some time now what is the viability of commercial acquaponics? is it real or just very hard to achieve thing. i have read online posts about how big farms have failed with big acquaponics experts operating them. what is the main problem? is it the combination of sciences that makes the systems hard to handle once they become big? i have seen so many people offering courses as well if commercial ap is so hard then why are thete so many people teaching it but not practicing it themselves? What would be a viable size for a small commercial farm?is it worth while doing these courses? they are prtty pricy. just lots of questions in my post apology in advance |

Have a read of this thread...gets interesting over pages 2 & 3 viewtopic.php?f=13&t=26561 simple answer is people have made it work but nowhere near as successfully as hydroponics in the general commercial veg growing realm. Hydroponics is a fairly straight forward and well understood recipe with very high yields = $$ despite cost overheads for nutrients etc. Tank based aquaculture is another area where more people have failed and/or gone bust than have successfully made millions. But there are obviously people who make it work. |

From what I've read, the most successful commercial setups are the ones that have started small and grown to meet demands, as opposed to the all-in setups where someone or a group of investors throws in thousands on a new beaut system that is over capitalised and doesn't yet have the market for their products. |

the link to the above thread is an interesting read. From what i understand is that yabbies is of the view that it is possible. Joel had a big system but has closed it down. i wanted to know what were the biggest challanges that joel faced? why did he need to close down? aand i don’t know how the HK one is going? looks good from outside thanks for the answers and helping me learn |
