You should be able to just hook up a water source to a float valve so you get automatic top ups if the level drops too far. Could be a rain barrel or house faucet or whatever

hi i am designing out an new system with DWC beds and want to use the as sumpntank as well. Just hit the wall with the water level in DWC. How can that be maintained if the pump is in the bed. Has anyone tried this method. should i have an additional sump after the gow bed from which i should pump the water backup to fish tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks |

I think they are wanting to return the water from the culture bed to FT instead of going to sump and then FT. Yes, but you would have to balance flow rates so levels are maintained and not pumped dry or overflowing and also allowing for an hourly turnover of the volume of water in your FT. Think there is a discussion somewhere about systems w/o ST? Adam |

You might want to look at using Constant Flood so that the sump can be eliminated. You still might want to have one though since you'll lose water to evaporation and having a sump will give you some extra leeway when you're gone on vacation. |

thanks dor answer ls i am looking to avoid sump tank as i am building a raft system on the ground. yes that is what i am actually trying to know how can you maintain waterblevel if you do that. |

I used a pump in the channel of this system viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5209 As long as the channel is reasonably deep and it's continuous flow, you just notice the water level in the channel going down over time, then you top it up to full. |
