quick question, i had a faulty ammonia tester that sadly led to the death of 13 trout :( gutted :( the whole systems sorted now and ready to introduce new fish but my question is can i still eat the trout that died of ammonia poisoning? or am i at risk of ammonia poisoning myself?

Ammonia toxicity causes a range of problems for fish but primarily the damage to the gills is what sets off the domino effect of stress, disease and death. Im not sure what effect ammonia toxicity has on the flesh of the fish but I would be more concerned of what issues have developed from decomposing tissue. Eating fish that have been found dead has been discussed on the forum and there a number of opinions. Some would and some wouldn't and there are things to be considered like time frame deceased, water quality and temperature.

Personally I couldn't bring myself to do it.
