Please be aware that the "website" field in the new member registration has been causing some issues.

It is listed as a mandatory field, and MUST be filled out or the registration does not complete.

If you do not have a personal or work website then just fill the "website" field in with www.backyardaquaponics.com

See you in the forum! :D

I just registered as a new member, and it took me many tries to figure out the same thing. My solution was to enter http://www.none.com as my website. (I don't have a website, like many people).

;) My post was on the main portal page so people would hopefully see it before they gave up ;)

When I registered as a new user, I didn't even see your message on the main portal page.

I recommend that either you do one of the following: 1. make the web site page not mandatory, or 2. make the "www.backyardaquaponics.com" website the default web site page, or 3. at least add your suggestion immediately before or after the data entry area for the web site question. I bet that you are losing up to 50% of your new registrations due to this problem! I almost gave up registering, because I didn't know if I was missing some registration data, or if the web site had a problem.

... Just my two cents worth!

Thanks,
- Jonathan

Steve, who fiddles with the code for the forum? I think that someone might have made an appropriate MOD for it or something, unless one of you guys/Joel can just fix it anyway..?

Truth be told, I almost didn't join because of that requirement. But I'm a bit more stubborn than the average not-very-knowledgeable computer user.

an odd thing is though, a lot of members don't have websites listed when you look at their profiles. How is this possible? Have they just gone back after registration and removed the website?

and, if when you register you don't give a birthday, then when you show up as the RANDOM MEMBER on the portal page, the birthday is always 11 November 1985.

Must be a default thing on the site.

"modders" for the code (good + reliable) are a rarity.

Points have been accepted, pending. ;)

we do what we can do.

Stubborn outside the box registrants are what we want ;) LOL

People (some have) can always post a message as a guest or email EB if they are having trouble.

There's no one making mods to the board at the moment... Modding phpbb's is not the easiest thing to do, and it's not easy to find people who can do it either. The person who put together all these mods for this board we're using has disapeared, just try clicking the phpBB XTreme link near the bottom of the page.. When his site was up n running there were many people who had posted in his forum, asking about getting rid of the website field in the registration page. For my limited knowledge of php, and what I read into it there's no easy way to get rid of it...

Members that don't have websites or birthdays listed were probably the members who joined before the board was modded, originally the board was just stock standard phpBB. Then we got all of the bells and whistles, including a few bits that aren't so great, like the "must include website bit."

If anyone knows about phpBB modding, please speak to me...... :)

Just to second purrsikat's comments, problems with registering really starts one to wondering if registering is worth the trouble. It only took me three tries (still under my tolerance for website errors for a potentailly good website) to figure it out but i can easily see how it night put off others.

I will say that i belong to several other websites that use this same software and this is the only one that has the website requirement, so i imagine it is part of your set up to drop that as a requirement.

As a matter of fact, i have sent the sysop at one... www.tropicalcrayfish.com a note that i am refering you to them. You guys may want to set up a link to each other's site as the info there is very similar. On their website's registration page, they have the "Website" option set to not required. Tukwat is the username of the person maintaining their system.

Good luck!

Poppa (aka Rob Lak)

Hi Poppa, welcome, glad you persevered and made it here...

Website field has been a problem for a while... is being looked at I believe...

People that did the original setup are no longer around apparently.

Anyway... tell us all about yourself Poppa...

Do you have an AP system up and running??

If so could you describe it and/or post some pics?

Hi Poppa, welcome to the forum, in reference to the site you posted - you might want to get rid of the "..." on the end of the address as it doesn't work
www.tropicalcrayfish.com
 - I'll go and read your page shortly

Thanks ell... edited as noted. It's a bad habit i have of ending many of my sentences with "..." as it's like i haven't finished the thought but just trail it off... :-)
