I love my chilli - but wrong state for me. At one stage I had 16 varieties (that was when I was 19 and lived in a unit - people must have thought I was mad). |

Good thing is that these days there are fantastic fiery chilli preserves at all the shows and markets. I like my chilli - but these people that eat the hot chillis like apples, that is way beyond me. Do you grow chillis BK? What types do people have? |

Ive got habenjeros and seranos....and yes i agree, i went last yr and left in tears lmfao........ some serious shit....some hot HOT shit....but next to each stand is usually a cheese stand lol....or even better a wine tasting stand....and this yr im gettin a lift ...YEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY...but the offer still stands if you want me to get you anything vege |

Thanks for the offer mate - but there is plenty of supply up here - it is the experience/atmosphere/spectical that I would like to be part of. When at my last house I had planted a pile of habanero seeds from an earlier crop. Because I got a large hit rate I ended up with heaps of plants. I ended up putting in a solid hedge of the plants about 4 metres long. People would definitelly thought I was mad. I had so many chillis I threw most of them, but I did make some real bad arse chilli oil, some of which I still have. A few months ago I thought I would throw a few splashes into a pan when I was making some thai or indian or something. Had to evacuate the house because of the fumes. Was like the cops had taken to the whole family with cap spray. Coughing, wheezing, watery eyes - the lot  .
I can't remember all the ones I grew, but some were habanero, jalapeno, cayenne, bell, cherry, manzana, anaheim, birdseye, thai, paprika, purple, serrano and tabasco. I gotta start growing again - poblem is a lot of them are annuals, so a bit of effort goes into it. My bell chili is in its second year and you should have seen the size of it and how many chillis on it - literally hundreds. I cut it back cause the chillis were just too heavy for the bush (although the bush was big). In the AP, the only chilli I have is a jalapeno (at the moment:-)) |

or touch ya old fella after doing the chopping. Call me a girl, but I wear gloves these days when chopping lots of hot chilli. Had one experience where I though my hands were going to fall off. Put them in dairy and everything. They ended up peeling badly - reckon I lost a lot of layers. I did also have an experience with accidental touching of the old fella when I went for a leak. Was very painful - but also stangely exciting

Funny thing is that some pests eat them - even the hottest ones. I have had hoppers and catterpillers eat my hot chillis. Also, fruit fly get them bad. They must be immune to the capsaicin. |

our ducks LURVE birdseyes. They scramble over each other to get them. The bower birds take a lot of them too. |

I have only ever grown chillies once, they were red skinny ones and we dried them by the shopping bag full. Had so many we made oil, dried them and years later I'm sure there's a bag in the back of the pantry LOL |

as well as drying mine ive been buying good extra virgin olive oil by the tin from a local person, who I dont talk to anymore rofl....and making a yum chilli oil. Oh and vegie I know what ya mean bout the old fella...and the eyes....and the nose and so on...is amazing what gets touched during the course of the day roflmao |
