Post subject:  Aquaponics research project in SA - expressions of interest

I've been offline for a while as my system is in standby mode (we are temporarily living elsewhere and our tenants are vegetarian).

I work at the University of South Australia (where I teach Water & Environmental Engineering) and have stumbled into some colleagues who are interested in aquaponics as a research concept.

Given the ad-hoc nature of this "field", I'm proposing to conduct a preliminary survey of a variety of installations around Adelaide (and nearby areas). I would have to flesh out the details, but the point of the exercise (apart from going to peoples' houses and seeing their systems!) would be to assemble a database covering the volume of fish tanks and grow beds, stocking density, fish (and/or crustacean) species, plant types, pumping power and energy consumption, etc.. My gut feeling is that a lot of our systems are not "optimal", especially when it comes to power and energy consumption.

Anyway, if you are interested in participating in this type of survey, please contact me by email:

(Obviously convert to conventional email address first)

Cheers,
James.

Okay okay, don't all email me at once...

The silence is deafening!

Surely there must be some South Australians around with systems... :dontknow:

Thanks Erik.

I have also had a number of responses to the PMs I sent out last week, which is great!

I'm looking forward to meeting people and learning about the diversity of systems out there.

Cheers,
James.
