So, I guess Spock was right after all (see previous posts to understand reference).
I'm sorry but I liked the edit button. I consider myself intelligent and articulate but I have a million distractions while I type- from phone calls, to dropping everything to make a bill and faxing it, to a toddler running in and out, to my own multi-tasking brain and typo errors slip in.
Can I live without it? I already have. Do I want to? I have no choice in the matter. Forgive me for my sensitivity on the matter, but being American with our supposed Constitutional rights ensuring our freedoms, I find it hard to stomach some of the things that our government has done lately that has shrunk our rights and no one seems to care because it protects us from the "evils" that threaten us. My father, who was ancient even when I was born (1909), lived through the "Depression" which was caused by corporate and individual greed- crash of '29 (fast forward to now- crash of the world economy) and both of my parents fought in WWII (my mother was from England) to fight the evils of a dictator and his Nazi regime. I just found out this month that the genocide prepretrated by the Nazi's against the Jewish people was in fact based on eugenics laws already in use in the state of California, among other states- our Constitutional America. What will I do if I don't like the results of this forum? I can chose to leave. What will I do if I don't like the results of what the American government is doing? That question still remains to answered.

The answer to your last question can also be "leave". The world is your oyster , I love Australia and have known nothing different as a permanent home ,, but I will be leaving here soon ,, too many rules ,, I can't even smoke a cigarette at my favourite bar, I had to fill 27 pages of documents for a house extension???? I already purchased 5 acres of land in Thailand , and will purchase another 7 in November ,, 5 more years and I'm out of Australia.

WOW! Chappo, I already knew that you were opinonated from some of your posts. I respect your candid admission and I would like to know the details. I am opinionated too, on those things that I choose to take a stance on- and I am arrogant to a degree and argumenative, which depending on the circumstances can be a plus or a minus- but I would rather argue with an intelligent person who gives me a reasonable arguement as why they are right and why I am wrong, than someone who openly agrees but secretly does not.
In regards to "leaving", I have thought of that but where would I go that I was not under the thumb of one form of government or another. You are moving to Thailand but look at Burma to see how quickly things can change for the worse.

Were we all so transparent, the world would be a better place, I think.

Chappo it's good to have opinions, and sounds as though you were correct, but man I miss the edit button, EB or Steve in my version phpbb3.01 you can enable editing but stop people from deleting, when you allow group permissions say for registered users click advanced or similar and tick or untick the boxes, also setting the edit time in board preferences to around 10 mins also works, but doesn't seem to after 10 mins, man my typo's are bad I need thr edit button
