No need to hide Charlie :)
I am so unsure as the newbie that I am it is almost frightening.
My family already thinks that I am nuts checking that water3 times per day !

Shellgrit and limestone is in the system already and with the feeding I will wait until they are really hungry.
How long do I wait? 1 day, 2 or more?

Ok Ferozaj, the babies are home and still kicking after I introduced them slowly to the water in the FT.
Water temp is 20.6 (Iceblocks are ready just in case), the water is salted with a handful of pool salt and they can't escape because of the black shadecloth.
They sit sort of calmly on the ground, I assume they need to get used to their new home. The airstones are producing nice bubbles and I told them not to worry for the next months :)
I will try and feed them a few pellets this afternoon then, 2 or 3 or whatever they snap up.

Sorry that I missed you all, but I have a good excuse. I was hosting calls on Curtin radio 100.1FM regarding aquaponics and gardening. :)

Common question regarding caterpillars - feed them to your fish and chickens :) or apply Dipel.

How do I plant the seedlings - get a bucket of water and add either worm juice or seaweed concentrate. Remove seedling from punnet and swish gently in bucket allowing potting mix and slow release fertiliser to fall away from roots. Plant in to media bed.

Looks like I missed the rush, but fortunately made it back in time for a sausage in a bun and a coffee while there is still some left. We now have trout, did I tell you how much I love trout

Gran,

incase you are interested i just feed my trout a bit of pellets and once they saw the goldfish eating it they started smashing the food. So they dont seem too stressed :)

PS. i have no air pump in my tank but i only have 10 trout to a full ibc that runs constant with a good water fall.

How cool are they Ferozaj? Trout just can't help themselves when anything hits the surface. :)

Well, I've tried a few pellets but they don't seem interested. Most of them are laying low on the ground, 3 are skimming the surface gasping for air. The airpump is in full swing but with the temperatur tody I better dont swich the pump on. Had it running for 15 minutes to fill the beds once and "clear" the water in tank. Boy did they poop while in the esky for 30 minutes.
Our setter loves all of them, especially the pellets :)
He found it very interesting to watch them after the initial fright of the water being "alive"

Gran I don't really know why you chose not to circulate the water but personally I would be running the pump 15 on 45 off or even full time.

It wasn't hot today, so there would have been little to gain from not pumping through your greenhouse GBs today (just don't pump through your GBs on "hot" days); I'd be pumping full time tonight, then making decisions about tomorrow, tomorrow. It's not going to be too hot tomorrow either, 24C according to the interweb. If you decide not to risk heating your water in the GBs in your greenhouse, you can still pump FT -> FT and circulate the water, increasing aeration and trout love their air!

Sorry I could not stay around longer to sample the snags. I had to be in Burswood (suburb not casino) before 11am. Dropped the fish in the tank, upped the airation, dropped in a little bit of food, dropped in more food, dropped in more food. The trout appear to have enlivened the silver perch as well. Daylight and they were hitting the food as well. Only 10 min in the tank and they were already settled. I can see why you love the trout Faye.

Thanks to Gavin for his wonderful service again. Looking at his website it appears that he has sold out all his trout. Good product, good service. Gavin can now holiday for 6 months until it comes time to put the trout out and replace with barra or perch.

Thanks again to Gavin and BYAP.

Thanks Faye. I had the pump on full time as you advised but the greenhouse is in a very sunny spot, no shadin and lots of afternoon sun. I had sunsails over it but I took them down. Probably too early as I now realize. The other tip to stop cycling the water when it is so warm was a goodone. it brought the temp down 1 degree. In the morning the water is fine bt in the afternoon the beds heat up, so I am cycling very little over the day. The gasps are gone now since I put a couple of ice blocks into the tank and started cycling.
I think I was more stressed than the fish today.
Our dog loves it, me running to and fro
Pumping FT to FT will be the thing I will do next Bunson and I my husband thought we might need another IBC outside, right next to the greenhouse. What a lovely idea 8)
Tonight the pump runs, started at 6 and willrun until 8 tomorrow morning and then we'll see if we have casualties or not. I hope not
One thing is for sure, I wasn't that concerned when raising our children

Thanks guys for the snag, ginger beer and an esky full of trout.

I'd forgotten how much fun the Trout are - they seem to have settled in just fine and smashed what little food I gave them this arvo...

Good on ya,Curly. Didn't take much to persuade you to grab a snagger, did it? Smell of onions will get anyone in :D (including Jenny Craig, i am sure). Glad the Trout have settled well :thumbright:
