That's a lot of lives touched.

I wonder how many non-members have gleaned useful info. I cant remember where, but somewhere on BYAP I saw someone write their first post after lurking for 4 years! There must be a stack of hits from people who just grab all the free info and move on.

Any stats on the total number of hits, and/or the total number of unique visitors?

I first came here in December 2007 and lurked for about 5 months before I finally introduced myself in April 2008
At the time I felt that you guys were so professional and cool and I was just shy but when I read as much as I could I realised that you guys were normal people like me so maybe visitors who come here to lurk just didn't feel they needed to share.

Though I would be interested to see how many came and went toooo...

Well... for what it is worth... just spoke to the rep from our local (Nevada) Extension service. It seems she is fielding roughly 25 questions a week on aquaponics. She loves your site... however, she did say she's not experimented on her own system, yet. She wet to Arizona for a seminar, and has actually taught a class since for the Reno Extension service.
Pretty cool, eh?

Yeah well, see that's the sort of thing that I think is a bit scary really.. Yeah it's cool that people are asking about aquaponics... But she went to one AP seminar, she's never had a system, and now she's teaching AP? :? Hope she's learnt quickly....

i have the same sentiments.
I talk and talk and talk about what I do and when friends or whoever I'm talking to goes "wow I want to do that!"
so I give them some basic design ideas to start a system of their own but they hardly do.
I've only managed to get 3 people to do that but the others just go, "I haven't started it because I know I'm gonna fail. it's all so technical!" but it really isn't when you have it going.
And then theres all the smartasses like my dad who go, "I love the concept, I know how it works but its costly and will not be a long term investment" Gah... or "wow, I want!" and then "I know how it works, but its not a good hobby to have" when the whole point is not a hobby, it's a part of life thing, like brushing your teeth! its goood to trap your own water and gooood to trap your own solar power, aquaponics is a method of growing without using the ground or dirt and having fish or grown food right where you live (or close by anyway) as opposed to chem..,..
sorry... !
it just pisses me off so bad!

Don't get mad... Jensilaedi, if they are asking... they are thinking.
Some folks require a 'percolation' period where the idea, the location, the implementation, etc... have to rattle around for a while.
I want... I just don't have the cash to jump in whole hog...
I've got five barrels.. and I'm petrified to plumb it. My son will assist... but I need to move past the anxiety, and be prepared to fail... y'all have failed plenty. It will not kill me. Unless I grab an electrical something I shouldn't.

Got a great bunch of plumbing parts... and the air pump for my birthday. The baby just went home to her momma for the weekend... so I have some time to ... tinker. Found a great bell siphon illustration from another site... I know there's one here, but I couldn't recapture where I'd seen it. If I'd have been smart when I'd found it, I'd have copied the image... but we all live and learn.

Oh-- and I just read the most wonderful stats about solar energy being generated in AU.... seems y'all are making the whole rest of the world stand up!! Solar and wind in combination, and supported by your government!
Wish we could get ours to do the same.

Yeah.. it's nice to see solar & wind making a slow impact here... but given the amount of sun & wind we have....

It's been painfully slow to happen....

Rupe...
re-assessing the way we've done things... it is a real internal personal issue.
Some of us are ready to leap...
Others find it an affront to the way they view the world.

You guys have made great strides.. the only ones even close to matching your output is, of all places... Germany.
You wanna shake a finger? Shake it at the U.S. We have immeasurable open space for solar or wind... we have one of the best designs {seen Honeywell's wind turbine? so cool!!} We have the highest energy USAGE on the PLANET...

Take a bow, son... take a bow. You're doin more to promote food security on the whole planet.
