Yep a real win win situation. NOT!

Put out an overly onerous and obviously unworkable piece of regulation, wind it back a little so it is kind of workable and have everyone rejoice and cry common sense has prevailed. The fact these guys have a job shows you there is no common sense in government at all.

Black bream native to all waterways in southern WA? Barra are native where the winter temps don't kill. Trout are already endemic is a number of Southern waterways and will struggle to survive summer too far north. Silvers aren't known for their ability to collapse a river system if they find homes in new waterways.

Just why is any regulation needed for with these fish species?

Because otherwise some numbnuts would just stock & release anything into waterways... without any knowledge, thought or concern as to any possible effects...

Like I said Rup. Barra wont survive the southern winters, trout likely not survive the summers, bream are native pretty much everywhere. So I ask again, what are we legislating against?

Santalum, dont try and make any sense of WA Fisheries Rules and Regs as it will drive you crazy. Even those working there struggle to work with it !

Fisheries new Translocation Policy is now out for Hobby Aquaculture purposes. I was told it should be up on their website within a few weeks. Basically you no longer need to fill out any forms providing:
1.You are using only white list species - Barra, Trout, Silver Perch or Black Bream.
2.Maximum number of fish to be moved is under 250 and maximum number allowed on premises does not exceed 500.
3.Fish are purchased from holder of an WA aquaculture licence and used for non commercial aquaculture.
4.Fisheries need to be notified (by email, fax or letter) at least 48hrs prior to fish being delivered with details such as number of fish, species, life stage & source.

Today, I emailed translocation@fish.wa.gov.au to inform them of my intention to receive my winter stock of rainbow trout and very promptly received this reply:

I have attached the Translocation Application Form for you to fill out and send back to me.

We are currently in the process of automating this process, but in the meantime you will still need to fill out the form.

Once I receive it, it won’t take long (within a week) to process.

Seems we still need to do paperwork....

Does anyone still have a mostly completed version of the form for rainbows? Gavin?

The changes are still not up on their website as they are still finalising the farm dam translocation process, once thats done the website will be updated. But dont hold your breath as getting anything done with the Dept of Fisheries takes a ridiculous amount of time, I mean my Jade Perch application has been with them for 14 months now and still no official response!!
I spoke to them last week and confirmed with them that anyone purchasing fish from Ferguson Springs only needs to send them the email with the details as outlined on my website 48hrs prior to the fish being moved.

Be nice if they sung from the same hymn book.

I e-mailed them a couple of months ago to check if anything had changed and was informed no it hadn't and to renew my translocation permit , which I duly did , which they then told me I didn't have permission for my S.P , so I e-mailed them a copy showing I did , which they then said to chuck the previous and use this one...man :upset: and you deal with these muppets weekly :support:

This whole thing has gone beyond a joke verging on ridiculous.

If you intend purchasing them from me I have been told by fisheries several times that my customers only need to send them an email with the details as outlined on my website. I am sure if you do that they wont send you any forms.

Been busy maintaining my basic system, growing veggies and a good batch of barra this summer. I'm getting into my running again, signed up for a few events in the upcoming months... Had some work, but that's finished for now and will probably restart in May?

Just send them an email or dont bother at all. I recon only about 5% of my customers are notifying them of their intention to translocate fish and I would say that figure would be less than 1% from other suppliers.

As a public sector policy 'muppet' myself, I feel I should put a little effort into defending my DoF cousins

...

Consider them defended.

I notice on their most recent strategic plan, they indicate: "Finalise Biofouling, Translocation and Stock enhancement policies and frameworks by December 2013."

December may not be when new translocation policy is actually finalised, but you never know.

It's a shame there are no active forum members who work at DoF, coz they would be able to clarify where things were at internally.

Hmm quote button doesn't include attachments....regarding your application for jades....
Is this going anywhere Troutman ? Or is it dead in the water ?
Barra are next to useless down here , jades could be a usefull alternative.
Apparently quarantine wa now charge $22 for inspection. Pretty excee on small lots
