Got my paperwork back today (only three months)

It authorises, "Non-Display Hobby Aquaculture Purposes" What is "non-display"? Does that mean I cannot show anyone my home AP setup? That I have to hide the AP system under a blanket? Area51, Roswell, top secret?

And there's:
"Any signs of disease, such as rates of mortality greater than 5% within a 24 hour period, must be reported to the Department of Fisheries within 24 hours of the occurrence." Wonder how many reports they will get inundated with from AP "newbies" and what action DoF will take?

I can see the intention, but in practice... ???

Just for the record, I have gone and put in the paperwork for silver perch, r/b trout and barra. I have received authorisation for the trout so far, but when I was filling out my paperwork I called my supplier of fish to ask questions for the applications.
They were quite taken back that we all need authorisation to transport fish and they contacted fisheries. They were told if the purchuser didn't take the fish outside the zone they were purchased in the purchaser didn't need authorisation. Then again if they were to take the fish from one zone to another they would need the paperwork.
Seems the left hand not knowing what the other hand is doing again but as it so far doesn't cost anything to get other than time I went ahead and filled out the forms.

I suppose if you are purchasing large quantities the fisheries would like to know where they are going and how you are keeping them, water usage and possible water and fish escapes, but for the small home user I think it's all over the top once again. But that's just me I suppose.

I got told the same when I rang John from fisheries a long time ago and I posted it here. If the fish are only moving within a zone its ok and autharisation is not needed.

I think this whole approval thing is a bit over-thought.

Yeah we rang them and they said we could sell fish without any licenses or permits... Got them to double check too, and yes no problem.... Then spoke to someone else in fisheries weeks later and we were told that we'd have to have an aquaculture license and that might take 12 months or more to get.... Hard to get a straight answer..

When I sent in my paperwork I was asking for 50 fish per buy, which is over the amount I would ever need for my systems, and the one approval I have received for r/b trout they have given approval for 250 fish.
Still waiting for s/perch and barra approval and thats over 4 mths now.
The retailers I do business with are happy to sell fish, and I am more than happy to purchase them and I have yet to be asked for any approval paperwork ever.

All the rules and regs are clearly stated on the fisheries dept website, dont go by what someone has told you unless you get it straight from one of the fisheries dept managers.

Good to see aquaponics actually getting a mention in the new look site. As I stated previously the current translocation laws were set up prior to aquaponics being popular so are mainly relevant to stocking fish in farm dams. All going well the movement of fish (Barra, Silvers and Trout) for 'hobby aquaculture' should no longer need approval if the proposed changes to the legislation are endorsed later this year.
