The host ISP should have weekly (or at least monthly) stats for every server they run...

And should be able to break that down to individual users... i.e that's what they base their billing on... and performance tuning and capcity planning....

Ask them for it ....

the seed box i use has stats available for processor load and memory (ram) usage. its the things that they tier they're billing on. bandwidth is not an issue, we've used TB's per month

open connections seem to destroy the ram on the server i use.\

would be interesting to know how many sites are on the one physical cpu.............

Are we talking about bandwidth or through-put....

SQL Queries are TINY in comparison to images or streaming video.... Think of bandwidth as a pipe, we were fine when we were just using 100 growbeds on our system,
but now we want to double it the return lines are just not big enough to squeeze all that water through. It only has to come out very slowly but its just not big enough
to fit it all through at once.... so it becomes even slower...

The solution is to get a bigger pump, so it can force the water through faster... or have multiple tanks to spread the load of the water...

Get my drift...?

Use sub-domains... quick easy and cheap! Divide the sever load AND divide the bandwidth... without having to go for massive pipes...

What kind of hosting plan are you on with 500gb of data transfer?

Do you optimize the forums database tables regularly? It might also be a good idea to look into adding some indexes to the tables, that can speed things up considerably.

Webhosting companies use the term bandwidth to describe the monthly allowed data transfer.

I think ethically, we should temporarily reduce our usage of this place till we sort things out. It'll give us a timeout to think. (Say, use it only once instead of thrice a day (well, it's addictive), logout when not using it, whatever. Especially checking for new posts less frequently than once every minute ;))

Just a thought that passed in my head, we may ignore this post and I won't be offended the slightest.

maybe it IS time to start a thread titled: aquaponics addiction help group

I sure am spending too much time here and occupying bandwidth or whatever (the technicalities elude me)
but I enjoy every second of it
so my addiction becomes worse :geek: :geek: :geek: :geek:

a daily digest instead of an immediate warning every time something new comes up on a thread you are following might maybe help limit traffic?
It would probably eliminate a good deal of impulsive and off topic reactions, great fun as they might be
sometimes an exchange resembles a chat session

I would not eliminate that possibility
but offer the daily digest as an alternative
it would leave me more time to build my setup
I admit I am addicted

Alright, It's all happening tonight sometime. They say things shouldn't be down for more than 4 hours, but just in case there's always the spare one to use till it gets up and running..
