We are taking orders now for Trout for the 2015 season, get your orders in as we always sell out. Will also be doing a few delivery days at Cheidys Aquaponics in Jandakot, dates to be announced for April and May at a later date.

New season Silver Perch fry/fingerlings from $1ea are ready and we have a few spare spots for next weeks deliveries to Perth area.

What do you think is the max trout a BYAP entertainer system could handle
a) as is ( 1000L FT and 1000L GBs)
b) with solids filtration added via RFF

using 1 fish per 25L of gravel would give 40, though that number is mostly determined by mineralisation capacity rather than biofilter capacity.

Mattyoga, last year I stocked 50 trout in my entertainer system. Whilst I was able to successfully raise and eat all the fish I will not stock that high again. It was a constant battle with dropping pH and nitrate was also high. In future I will go with 40 trout in the system as they are such heavy feeders and produce a lot of waste. I think that is a far more comfortable number without pushing the limits

Just in answer to the RFF question I had one fitted with 50 trout and still struggled with excess nutrients and pH drops. I also think 50 full grown trout is pushing the limits for a 1000L tank. Just my experience anyway

So far looking good Charlie. I have still got two ponds of Silvers to harvest and already have heaps of stock in the tanks from the earlier spawns. No dramas with the trout so far despite the hot humid weather. The flow thru trout tanks peaked at 23C this year as there was no real hot days but the recirc systems have needed chilling recently with the warm humid nights.

Matt I have one customer who always puts 50 trout in his 1000L tank with one BYAP growbed and seems to grow them out successfully, however he starts eating them as soon as they reach around 250gms in size. So he ends up with a lot of small fish to eat where as most folk on here prefer to eat fewer but larger ones. At the end of the day you probably end up with a similar amount of flesh to eat.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm wanting more smaller fish than last year so that sounds good.
