Hi all,

Taking advantage of Bunnings ' we will beat it by 10%' policy I have just come home from shopping!

I needed ball valves and bits to fix up my watering rail and found a website in wodonga called

THE cheapest irrigation bits and pieces i have ever found!
and excellent postage rates!
I mean these guys are selling a 20mm slip ball valve for $3.96!
Bunnings price? $8.76!

So, present my goodies list to bunnings, Bunnings makes a phone call and WHAM! 10% off.

My list,
9 x 20mm slip ball valves,
9 x pvc endcaps
9 x pvc Tee pieces
and 2 45deg elbows

total 46 bucks!!!

But in saying that, the wetearth website is superbly priced, to still go thru them + postage would have been 67 bucks so still rockin.
I have no affiliation with them, and only pass on the site because we all need to save a bit of dosh!!

That just goes to show you that Bunnings in their natural state are a rip off because they would be getting the same wholesale price or cheaper than wetearth, yet they try to charge top $.

You should support the others who are trying to keep the big bastards like bunnings honest coz when the smaller guys are gone, the big ones can charge whatever they want and there will be no alternative.

We get it a lot here, people wanting lots of advice about what do do with their DIY system, then walking out without buying a thing to get it all from bunnings, when we have cheaper prices than bunnings on almost everything.. People just assume bunnings will be cheaper..

And expanded clay, bunnings sells it for $56-57 a bag normally, we sell it for $40. People get our price and go into bunnings to get another 10% off, that sucks... Support the people who offer a better price as standard, and those that offer service and advice, it will save you in the long run..

Not meaning to have a go at you specifically Porter, just having a bit of a whinge..

In my case i am super stoked simply at the savings i made!

I lost my business mid year and have begun full time study in an effort to recuperate, restock and have a break.
My wife has the usual wifely income from the goverment, I have austudy and thats how we live.
With three littlies we live very simply and any saving at all for us is a high five.
Hence our venture into AP, if we can grow our own fresh, save a bit a at the local supermarket bill then, maybe save for some chooks, for some eggs then we can get just a little bit ahead.
I mean, that 23 i saved today, thats half a box of huggies from IGA.
(not to mention the business debts we still owe!)
So as much as i remain stoked at my $23 saving, i completely understand where your coming from and share your frustrations.
No beef from me there thats for sure.

Mine was a little bit more complicated. We had two phone calls and some bloke measuring the fittings with verniers so the woman could tell me B's were better quality. Sigh.
I got about half of them cheaper.

Seen this happen in a small country town.

A couple of locally owned grocery stores when Coles decides to move in. Drop their prices - even making a loss - to gain market share (prices even cheaper than Perth).

Locally owned grocery stores cant compete and close up shop. Coles raise the prices to more than what they used to be.



I am the opposite to that. I see the expanded clay at Bunnings and think to myself - BYAP is cheaper, think I will get it from there.

Thanks for the tip Porter, i'm only across the river from Wodonga, i'll check it out tomorrow, I need to make a few mods and fix the leaks on my new system

Only shop at bunnings to use the $50 gift card I get from my company each xmas.

Try my best to only go to Bunnings when the smaller independant stores dont have the stock. Have shafted bunnings on more than one occation, got 40mm ball vavles for $3.60 because the salvage shop round the corner only had one left at $4.00, took it and scored, got a $300 lawn mower for $162, took a clearance tag from Kmart for the display model (raped by theifing bastards, no carby, fuel tank or spark plug) and they beat it.

Hey a mate of mine used to send his staff down to buy stock for his hardware shop if he ran out of things, they told bunnings the cost price to his store, then they beat it. He sent me there for something I needed that he didnt have, when they rang him he quoted about a quarter of the shelf price so I bought 2 and put one back on his shelf. Bunnings screw too many people so you have to laugh when it happens back to them.
