I'm overstocked... as a beginner, I thought I'd lose some fingerlings at the outset - but didn't. I suspected I'd run into strife eventually and, now the warm weather is here and the fish are hungry, I've got high nitrates and slightly cloudy water. My dirt garden will get a good water and the fish will have to go hungry for a couple of days but that's a temporary solution. I don't have space for more grow beds and not keen on external filtration/solids removal. I suppose I could dispatch the fish (maybe freshwater sardines??). But would prefer to give them away. Unless others have some tips to manage. From my new semi-indoor system 10 jade perch... they were 8 - 10 cm fingerlings a month ago but have probably grown a fair bit From my first system. 2 eel tailed catfish - with me 10 months. Guessing about 15 cm but hard to tell 12 silver perch - also 10 months since purchase. Guessing about 12 - 18 cm Have never had any disease problems so fairly confident fish are OK... all are eating very well. Please take them! |

You had eels in your aquaponics system? Cool never heard anyone doing that before |

I did contemplate trying eels down the track... I believe they can be done in aquaponics if you can find a supply and find some way of keeping them in... but my occasional aquaponics assistant is scared of snakes and can't be persuaded that, just because they have the same shape, they aren't the same thing. |

Must be some serious sort of system you're building if it's still not ready Charlie. I saw pictures you'd posted of some oversized biofilter material you had ready to put in a system - seems like it was months back. Are you still up for that beer some time? |

Fish have found a new home in a local school. . . They never offered aquaponics when I went to school. Sent from my phone using Tapatalk |
