I need to throw this out there to see which is the bet type of grow bed system, because I want to get this right the first time, is it flood & drain or constant flood? I've heard so much about both systems, so which one is the best?:support: |

flood and drain on a timer is the best as you can switch between 2 as needed |

Try the search function above, as there is more than enough discussion on here about the different types of growbed setups Search for byap trials |

Hi Jacko, You could fit an auto siphon... 1. No timers, which are potential fail points IMO. 2. No small holes at the base of the standpipe to block up with debris or bio-film. 3. Pump runs 24/7 (rather than stop/start), which can be used to supply constant extra aeration to your FT via a spray bar, also eliminates the chance of a pump not re-starting. 4. Fast GB drain cycles gets freshly oxygenated water from your GB to your FT quickly, and further oxygenates with it's "rush" into your FT, as opposed to a slow drain. 5. Can very easily be converted to constant flood by simply removing the bell, or timed flood and drain by drilling two 4-6mm holes in the base of the standpipe. It's just another option worth considering. Auto siphons are great IMO, once set, they are basically maintenance free, other than occasionally spinning the outer screen to clear any roots, which you would also have to do with any other type set up. Cheers. |

Constant flood is simple and it works. If at some stage you want to save on running costs add a timer. Everybody is looking to minimise fail points, I think I am on my second timer in 5 years. I don't think that it is the big problem some people make it out to be. I have had more issues with my fridge than I have had with my timer. |

Yes check out the BYAP trail systems it was enough to convert me to CF and by simply removing the bell from my bell syphons this was simple to achieve. Make sure you set up for a bell syphon then you can choose which ever suits your style. |
