Hey Troutman, we have ponds

Unfortunately, we don't have to worry about where the other 7800 are gonna live. Today was a very dark day. Seems the fish got a bit more stressed on their travels than they could cope with. Temps here were higher than their hometown, and today they have ended up with some fish in less than perfect condition (ie. dead)

We won't be making any of these fish available until they are in perfect condition. We are treating the survivors at 5 parts salt, have just finished now, after being at it since 4pm this afternoon. Slightly knackered

I certainly don't expect anyone to take any of the fish they have ordered if they are a) in a hurry or b) have any concerns. The fish have been certified as healthy at their point of origin by the NSW DPI, but obviously we have some transport issues that need discussing prior to bringing any more fish here, and as it costs us 800 every time we do so in health certification costs, we won't be bringing in another batch at this stage. We simply don't have any money left.

Anyway, I will keep this thread going to keep everyone informed. I might be a bit scarce around here for a few days while we get things sorted out, but if you PM me, I will respond within a couple of days.

Once again, we are really sorry about all this stuffing around. We are doing our best to keep going.

What a roller coaster you must be on. There will be smooth waters ahead. Hey Stu maybe at times like this you can look back at just how far you have come and where you were this time last year.

Looks like the timing of your fishes arrival was very unfortunate given that Adelaide is in the middle of a record heat wave for March.
Hope you manage to save a fair percentage of them.

Sad to hear about your problems Stu. I know it doesn't help - but it's a learning curve heh. It will seem so easy once you have been doing it a while :-/

hey monya,

i feel for you mate i really do. who would want to be a live animal producer? so many factors that can go wrong. always on a knifes edge and hanging by the skin. not something for the control freak.

sure hope you have thick skin as your going to need it in this game.

i hope that you get some cooler weather soon. i thought we had it bad until i heard about you.

hang in there mate. we're all riding this with you and prey you get through.

as much as i hate to say it your not an aquaculturalist until you've lost a million fish. the key is to start small and slowly work your way up. i hope this doesn't break the camels back.

sorry for all the lame saying's but they seem appropriate in this circumstance. i'm already speaking like a dad. 8)

btw try to go easy on the liver.

Sound advice [s]dad[/s]

Appreciate your comments BF. Although I was pretty much ready to ditch it the other night, we are hanging in there and looking forward to getting these fish back in the ponds and off to their new homes. They are feeding well, somewhat of a frenzy really :)

KE fires were about 10 - 15 k's away. Scary enough.

H,

If any fire is looking like a problem, Heather will take the kids to the folks place in town, then come back. We have under construction a petrol powered fire fighter pump with sprinklers that will throw a 15 metre wet radius around the house, and also has a couple of attachments for hoses.

We are fortunate that we can exit through the neighbouring dairy farm which is lots of cleared land and a few dams, or we could jump in the dam here. Not heaps worries, but the Willunga fire was a wake up call and made us realise we would stay and fight rather than bolt.
