Wow, I'm surprised there are no fish farms or hatcheries selling catfish there? Here in the states, if you are gonna stock only one type of fish in a farm pond (like if it isn't that big a pond to support lots of different fish), they usually recommend catfish. Then bass and blue gill in proper proportions to balance each other if the pond is big enough.

So where do you guys get fish to stock in farm ponds and dams? Are catfish not one of the choices for such stocking?

Nope TCL... our native catfish don't grow to the size that the Channel Catfish does... at least not in the time you guys can grow them out...

And catfish just isn't a recognised table fish here in OZ.... although the Vietnamese Bassa is changing that...

Well that is kinda bummer. Here it seems as though the family is agreeing that the catfish is just as good or some of them are saying the catfish is better than the tilapia. Also apparently easier to clean/process.

I suppose with a little time and good press minds can change. Many people see to have the idea that catfish are bottom feeders and therefore taste muddy. That really isn't the case so far in my experience and when grown in nice clean AP water it definitely isn't the case.
