Hi all, I'm trying to hook up a 12v 110ah battery to a 230v AC pump that claims to be 25w

I've tried a 600w inverter but it seems like it's caused a fault in the inverter. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Could the start up load be more than 600w?! Seems crazy...

Thanks! :(

Got any links to the inverter information? Pump information might be helpful as well.

More info required.

A 600W inverter will have no problems running a 25W pump. If you are using some sort of el-cheapo inverter, just looking at them the wrong way can cause the magic smoke to be released. They are best avoided.

If you had any notion of attempting to run a 600W load from a 12V 110AH Lead-acid battery, it probably wont deliver enough power to run the load anyway. They are not designed to deliver 50+ amps.

Jebao pump looks fine.

Inverter... running 50A+ through a car cig lighter plug is insanity!

Does the pump make any noise at all when you try to run it with this inverter? I suspect the output is some horrible shaped triangle wave (aka modified sine wave), rather than a nice smooth sine wave, and many motors will not run on that sort of waveform, or else run very roughly.

I'm assuming the pump runs ok when plugged into the mains power?

Yep, pump runs fine on mains.

Inverter comes on for a second then fault light comes on.
Now fault light comes on even with nothing plugged in so busted I guess...

If that pump is all you plan to run, or even with a bit bigger pump + an air pump, I'd suggest something like a Victron Phoenix 12/180W or 12/250W inverter.

Return the busted one for a refund- not suitable for the advertised purpose.
