Post subject:  Wave makers
So looking to use a WaveMaker style pump in my IBC pump? Reason being not to make waves but to circulate movement and help add air? It ranges from a few watts to 18w depending on which one I use and seems better than air stone.
What do you guys think?

Imho

Far more efficient than airstones.
Cons
Slightly difficult to mount
Reliability of the cheap Chinese ones is questionable

Not sure how big your FT is but 18w may be overkill. :)

I could even spend a few more dollars and find them in a DC current model that are even more efficient

They are really cheap and nasty..... I would think they're not really worth it, fish will knock it off, there's only a suction cup mounting, if not they will hit it and break it when they are in a feeding frenzy, or you'll knock it off yourself...

The Sun Sun may be cheap Chinese and not terribly well made however they are axial pumps.
As I said cons

Slightly difficult to mount (especially in an IBC)
Reliability of the cheap Chinese ones is questionable

From memory Myles used to run one (not the Sun Sun).

If you have some spare cash (about 3.5k us dollars) the Tunze Masterstream will move about 80kl per hour. :lol:

I am using tiny 3W Venturi three-in-one filters..
I reckon they will get SOME current and more evenly distribute the O2.
Indeed they clog and need cleaning, but that is not all that often..

These came from AliExpress and I think they were about $5 each, so they are very disposable..
The add extra air via the venturi, but this is unreliable, as the tell-take that cleaning is needed, is NO BUBBLES..

So - bottom line - very much in favour.

So the venturi was worth it then? I don't quite understand what your saying? Figure $5 or diy seems worth it

For those in the US of A Amazon are doing a pretty good deal on the Jebao WP60 (if you want to move some serious water). Looks like a clone of the Tunze (Turbelle) but not quite as efficient. :)

EDIT

Please note I have not tried one of these and they are relatively new so reliability is in question. I have a small Sun Sun (it was really cheap) just to play with. :)

Yes my brother has these for his saltwater tank...
