Found this at Lowes for 70$ with filters that last for 1200 gallons - after multiple tests on a trickle drip I'm getting no chloramine / chlorine registering in my test kit (though a top off at this rate could take all afternoon)

I used a garden hose to 1/4" converter then have the hose barely on to get a slow trickle

You can let it go full blast but my kit was testing 1-3 parts chlorine (though better than 6+ off the chart when straight from the tap) still when at a slow drip the test kit comes back completely clear

Next is to get some sort of top off valve switch so I can leave it on all the time

A float valve might help......will this be going all the time? as in a permenant fixture to your tank.

If this is the case I would try changing the hose fittings to plastic instead of brass.
