Neville attempted to create a DIY aquaponics system and after having spent countless hours trying to make the system work, he came to us for advice. Neville had an existing underground fish tank which he wanted to incorporate into his new aquaponic system because he wanted to keep the water temperatures stable throughout the year. We utilized Neville's original design and replaced his DIY growbeds with two BYAP growbeds and stands. We transferred the expanded clay from Neville's previous system into the new growbeds. Neville's system was completed just in time for his open garden. The visitors loved Neville's new system and Faye and Joel where at the open garden explaining to the visitors what aquaponics was and how it worked.

Ahh, nice to have you aboard Neville... It will be very interesting to see and hear your opinions regarding plant growth in aquaponics in comparison to soil based vegetable production... Please keep us up to date... |

In November Neville's garden was opened to the public. The aquaponic system had just finished cycling and the plants had just started to grow. Many of the visitors were impressed with Neville's Aquaponic system. Faye and Joel talked about aquaponics to the visitors who were keen to learn more. Below are some pictures taken on the day.

Many, many visitors marvelled at the abundance of produce in a relatively small area. So neat and compact and inspiring to new gardeners around the county as Neville shares his passion for food, cooking and growing. |

Love his pool, it amazes me that someone with such a passion for gardening can live on such a small block, he certainly has fit plenty in. What did the signs over the fish tank say and what fish does he have in the tank at the moment? How deep is the tank and what volume does it hold? Were any of his raised gardens wicking beds? I am surprised I have not really heard anything regarding wicking bed benefits from these guys given how suited they are to growing produce here in WA where there are such tight water restrictions and hollow gutless sand across the majority of the coastal plain. |
