Post subject:  A 6 bed system

This system was a beauty, a 6 bed system in a beautiful location up in the hills, with a nice blank area to work with. The couple we built it for, are passionate about the environment, they've given up their high flying executive jobs and they're trying to make positive changes in both their own lives, while encouraging others to do likewise. They sold the 4X4 and bought a prius, they're building a thermally efficient solar passive house using many materials from the existing house, and there's extensive revegetation work with natives that they're doing on their 3 acres. Toni was planting and mulching natives most of the time we were there, while she wasn't helping us fill the beds and wash the hydroton.

Gary also took part in a program run by Al Gore last month, training others to help get the climate change message across to the public. And he is now trying to get elected to the Federal Senate representing Western Australia and the Climate Change Coalition. Don't know who the "Climate Change Coalition" is? Check out www.climatechangecoalition.com.au

But now to the system.

The system went fairly smoothly after some minor hiccups at the start. Faye and I had prepared well the day before pre-cutting and glueing many of the pieces to cut down on the installation time on site.

File comment: The site before installation. The ground was very hard, so there was no need for any extra supports under the growbed legs.

That is a beauty. Bet a lot of folk here (me included) look at those single day setups with jealousy - me after having been going for 18 months and still having just 1 bed set up There is a lot to be said for these turn-key systems of yours Joel, specially if you have the $$.

Yes, the turnkey systems are probably not for most people here on the forum who are keen to find the cheapest methods and spend the time researching how to build a system themselves from bits and pieces. But they do allow people who are interested in aquaponics, a means to have a custom, working, proven system installed for them, without having to do all the research and running around.

This 6 bed system was 11 grand fully installed with galv stands, hydroton, backup air pump, book, DVD set, bacteria, etc etc.. Plus 4 hours of support and instruction.

Heh Joel - is the ground nice and hard there. Those plates on the bottoms of the legs aren't that big - at my place that bed would get lower and lower . Mind you - I guess with hydroton it is a heap lighter.
