He's made a few "mods" to his shed... power, lights, wiring... even the kitchen sink... :shock:

And he's added a double venturi to aid oxygenation in the return line....

(Swear I didn't say a word about efficiency... :lol:)

Both air tubes are glued along the top of the elbow/pipe.... when closed the water runs quite clear... albeit oxygenating by fall/splash...

The venturi affect of "sucking" air into the flow is quite plain to see when the "venturis" are (unblocked) operating...

wow what a great system and the photos show its progression wonderfully...


i do have a question tho...

is the use of the venturi drain in the last few photos oxygentate the water enough not to use a air pump???

i could not see an air pump in the system.. but i might not have looked hard enough..

i was thinking of using a dc backup aerator to keep the fish happy during our many blackouts here.. esp if you can get away without having on in the system that runs on grid...

An update on this system...

Helmut called last week asking for another 50 Silver Perch.... unfortunately, despite a battery backup system (re above post)... he had a power failure that extended to over 12 hours...

Resulting in the lose of half of his fish... he got home in time to save the rest....

Straight from his hospital bed after a double bypass operation.... now there's true dedication for you.... :cheers:


On another note... I'd put him in touch with Naomi Hatchery to purchase 200 tandanus catfish....

Due to repairs on the pump from his water supply... he floated the bag containing the fingerlings in his dam while the repairs were carried out...

When the time came to retrieve the bag.... it split.... he now has 200 catfish happily living in his dam... :lol:
