well i do have one good idea for that might make free power off the grid and lowest pollution and easy to fix but the only problem is you might need some one who can come out with the gear parts. well here i go until i can get the best of i to get the RC car parts to make this up. ask help if you can't fill in... meu'?

first off the hole thing is made up of a drop down weight system that uses a 3 step up system gear converter kinda like a car transmission but backwards and to AMP or Voltage Maker. so it kinda looks like this |< weight to 1:2:3 to out put AMP >| so the number one has the weight one it, the number 2 had the ,equalifier, or motor to help push the AMP slow or faster to gain the right weight out to the number 1 out put gear then to the AMP or Voltage Maker. well if you have Lego gears and play with the tork you will find that it's hard when you have many gears stepping up one way when you have a lot but also finding out that you can help to push the gears along if you move one in the middle that can move from that last one.

so that is for the main part but to pull it back up you need some sort of clutch setup to get the right pulling up system and just use a solar panel during the day to help to pull the weight back to the top and starts all over again

so tell me if anyone had Lego and can try to put this up to par or if anyone els has life saving planet ideas that can do as well as this one with less amount of pollution and last as long, peas~

I am an electrical/electronic engineer, and I could help you, but I have read your post 3 times and I still have no clue... Can you explain in some more detail what it is you are planning?

Well that explains it then... Sorry, couldn't resist, as an X electrical drafty most of my friends are engineers...

I think the gist is to use a weight for energy storage perhaps? Wind up during the day while there is sun about, then let it wind down later producing energy.. I think...

that makes a bit more sense. You are going to have to lift one HUGE weight, or lift a small one VERY high.. then make it run down using clockwork similiar to those old cuckoo clocks.

In the US, there are a few water reservoir systems that work like this. During the night, the extra power from the grid that would normally be lost is used to pump water to the top of a huge hill that has a reservoir on it. Then during the day when there is a higher power need, the water is drained through power turbines into another reservoir.

Also in many large buildings, the cheaper electricity is used at night to cool huge chunks of ice. Then during the day, the ice is used in the air conditioning systems.

Ice banks are great cooling devices! They are not so common though are they?

just really if you took out the solar panel and add anther one of the 1:2:3 setup charging system it could charge it self, drop down and pull up it could probable do this by its self, free energy there for

Ahhhhhhh, perpetual motion...

This has been brought up a number of times, unfortunately it will not work, there are losses due to friction and gravity. There have been many attempts with pulleys and gears and spinning wheels with magnets etc, but unfortunately none of them work.

but it is the way of the future EB

The Idea of making Ice at night and then using that ice to help cool the building during the day is what a few high rise office buildings are currently investigating to help them get a Greener Tag..

Along with Co generation..

One building that was talking about it was the Rialto in Melbourne.. I'm not sure how far they have gotten but they where talking about installing a system to help with the cost of running the building..

The idea of Pumping water up a hill at night is crazy, you use more energy to get the water up the hill than you do on power return..
- A very inefficient way of using energy..

The cost per watt is low compared to alot of other systems though. Any form of energy storage will result in a loss of power.

yes pumping the water up a hill does use more power than what is generated when it comes back down, but that is not the point here. The idea is not a net gain of power. It is using the power that is available (that is effectively going to waste if you do not use it, and is therefore "free") and putting that into something you can use when you really need it (peak times)

The ice block idea is of course not very efficient either...

It may have been a bit feasible until the idea of removing the solar panel altogether was thrown in... If there's no power source at all, it can't keep going.....

my plan for a powerless system is a bit more controversial.

I want to make a round tank maybe 2m diameter, and have a verticle spindle in the middle, that will power a bucket lifting system. Connected to the vertical shaft will be two radials that extend to perhaps 400mm of the side of the tank. The radials are attached such that they can swivel up and down, but when they are rotated around the tank, they cause the vertical spindle shaft to turn, and power the buckets. The spindle also has some mechanism to constrain the movement of the spindle in one direction only.

Then..

I go catch two nice large catfish. They are crazy fast and crazy strong. Connect them to the end of the radials via a small connecting rod or nylon string or something, and perhaps a buckle of sorts to their very very substantial lower lip. They will inevitably get used to it and swim round and round.
