A mid sized AP system can provide 5 of the 6 food groups
If there is a way to get a dairy goat in there it would have it covered

Breads, Cereal, Rice & Pasta
Fats, Oils & Sweets
Fruits
Meat, Poultry, Fish, Beans, Eggs, Nuts
Milk, Yogurt & Cheese
Vegetables

Getting the goat in there shouldn't be the problem BRB...

Getting it to either stay in there... or getting it out... might be...

So if you are a dairy goat and you eat everything else in the AP system, Are you healthy?

I guess you would need a growbed the size of DanDman's or bigger with composting worms

and that is the prob with goats, they will eat everything in the AP system down to the roots, if they can get to it........... Good Fencing required, and even that don't keep them out sometimes........

in the mid sept, the garden gate did not latch good, and they got in and eat almost every leaf off the Pepper and Chille Plants that were 3- 4' tall, before i discovered them......
did not eat the chille's though, as i am sure that the first one they tryed, burned them up pretty good.......

although we do have very good goat cheese from them, in spite of them being a pain other wize.....

I was hoping this thread would go in this direction! How big is your place there RS? And how big is your goat enclosure or pasture? I really am starting to believe a person can not only live on what comes out the back yard but live good!

We have 5 acres, with a .4 acre garden fenced in, and a barn with 2 stalls, a corral, and storage

for the moment, the current 4 Goats and horse have the run of most of the place, so they have plenty of grazing area, but i will be installing some more fencing and 10' gates in a cupple of spots, to limit their access to the front of the house, and to the area between the new greenhouse and the new shop and garden, so that i can have more GB's and other plants, etc... in that area, with out them destroying everything. This will mean that i will have to mow it, where they had been keeping it fairly clean before......

our goats are the smaller pigmie goats and don't give as much milk as the dairy goats do, but it makes very good tasting soft cheese, and we have Cabrito BBQ or roast about every 4 mo or so, and we sold off a young breeding pair for $80 a few weeks ago.

They can be a good thing, but they can destroy a LOT in a short time if they get the chance.........

Humans do not need to consume dairy products.

Agreed....We can survive on water and algae if thats all we have.
But dairy is a nice addition to a balanced diet. Calcium and butterfats can be obtained by other other means. Thru bulk plant matter or other enriched food products. Broccoli is high in calcium and grows well in ap.
Fats and oils can be obtained from the fish.

True. We don't need to drink beer or wine either. We don't need meat. We don't need BBQ, nor just time sitting with friends, nor air-conditioning, and the list goes on....

We eat these things, do these things, use these things because we are alive and want to feel it and enjoy it. Not just get through it on the minimum we need to survive.

Milk...It's the original energy drink! Heck I still like the original packaging

I've cut a lot of meat out of my diet. But its more because I'm too lazy to cook it.

I happen to like meat, milk and animal fats and realize there are those who don't and I can respect that. Those of us parents know if the kids get to name the animals they won't get eaten

Bill why would you doubt it? Our great grand parents were doing exactly this not so long ago. The supermarket, cheap frozen and canned food are a relatively modern invention. Before then people raised summer veggies in the backyard. Even in places like Brooklyn. AP makes that more realistic than ever.
