hi - doing some reading up, looking to improve and increase the size of my set up - just wondering - has anyone built a set up that uses instead of tanks - what is best described as a pond, are there issues with contamination? |

I'm interested in this one too. My wife and I have been considering putting in a natural swimming pool. If we go that route I plan on putting in various grow beds to assist with filtration and provide us some food too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

We have had several people do swimming pool systems and I think a few others have at least considered pond systems. I don't know if they ever built them though. One of the things you'd need to deal with is algae and pond plants taking up a lot of the nutrients. I'm pretty sure you could get it to work though. Look up "bog filter pond" and there are other versions of this sort of thing if you look around enough. Really your filter is your grow bed in most AP systems and bog filters for ponds are no different. You could also setup some wicking beds and just pump a portion of the water to these every week. With the wicking beds you can then add any additional nutrients needed as long as the water won't be returning to the pond. This might be handy if your stocking levels are too low to support good plant growth. |
