Hi everyone, I live in Kinglake VIC, and am just looking at starting up a black soldier fly compost system for chicken feed. Just wondering if anyone has had any success in establishing a colony of BSF in Victoria? I've had corogated cardboard out by my compost heap for ages but haven't had any success. Has anyone close by got any BSF larvae you'd be willing to part with? Happy to pay. Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers, Justin. |

A good friend of mine did black soldier fly larvae for composting and fed the flies to his fish as well. From what I recall, he had a huuuuuge success rate in this. I would highly recommend it, as they are particularly so slow moving and pretty hardy as feed. What space do you have available for them? |

Gday BuiDoi, That'd be great if you have some live ones you're able to send! Let me know if you have any and I'll PM you with address and get your details to send some cash for postage. ScurveyDog, I'm going to make a DIY Biopod from a large Bunnings storage container. I've read that BSFL will go through up to 15kg of waste per square meter. If I aim for a surface area of 1/4 square meter, that'd be heaps for my purposes! Cheers, Justin |

I finally remembered to go check.. All I saw was one single BSF, that flew away.. everything dead and now just the worms.. So I added the last of the goat POO ad wet it down and will see if there is any eggs in that lot.. It we get movement I will let you know.. I must try find time to make a BSFL grower/harvester.. what a waste to just let them die.. .. |

Shame they're all gone. No doubt they'll be back though, good luck! |
