Guys, am planning to make a system that's about 1,500 gallons big, and will use Tilapias. So I have questions:

How many tilapias can this system handle?

I am planning to use Deep water culture method, how much grow space do i need, if i'm going to plant lettuce?
What filtration system/s do i need?

I'm not sure but I'd look for information on the University of the Virgin Islands system to find out.

This is what I have from various sources but mostly UVI I think

60 to 100 gms of feed per square meter of DWC growing area per day.

UVI shoots for 1/2 lb of fish per gallon

You need to figure how much the Tilapia will eat each day. Growth rates and feed conversion ratios will help with this. They probably eat different amounts as a percent by weight and age so this may affect how many you can stock.

You also need to look at retention times in the DWC and there are probably some other things I'm forgetting about.

Thanks Scotty435!

Now what i need is to know what kind of filtration/ filtration system/s to use. I am hearing about the mineralization tanks and clarifying tanks, can someone please enlighten me, thanks in advance!

With mineralization people are mostly just trying to get more nutrients out of less fish feed. Sometimes it's about reducing nutrient levels when they are too high though. Most people don't need one because they have a grow bed which already mineralizes the solids.

For DWC you need a solids filter before the DWC or the roots will get coated with solids and die. I think several people have done this with grow beds if it's a small setup but Radial Flow Filters (RFF) aka Radial Flow Settlers are very common. If you're going really big with this then look at the UVI setup, Ryan's thread (Chatterson Farms) and you might find something on Friendly aquaponics. There are lots more than this around the web but this is a good start.
