Anybody played around with this stuff? I got masses of wood waste to burn!

I checked this out once when i stumbled across a picture of a german car with this huge contraption attached to the back, car powered by wood

That's pretty cool, although id probably convert it to a mobile hotdog stand or icecream van, or even better - mobile-ponics! I think a GB on top with FT in the back section, you could move it around to the best position for the season and weather, do the show circuit as a display model, the possibilities are endless...

Lots of vehicles ran on wood gasification during the war I think, tractors and buses for one....

I'd like to someday use a pyrolyzing stove to heat an AP system, and use the resulting charcoal for the AP media, and fold in the used media into dirt beds at the end of a season. The gasification rig would produce charcoal, right?

We had them during and after the war.When we went to the pictures dad had to leave before they finished to stoke some charcoal in the gas producer so it was ready to go when the pictures finished.

Wow. That's cool dbird! So you must be 70 or 80 now. Can you remember how the car ran on the gas? Aparently you need a large capacity motor to make up for lack of power!

DD. They produce char more than char coal. Pretty fine stuff I would imagine but it is supposed to be good for the soil.

I have been scoping www.gekgasifier.com for open source. There is also the fema design that the feds came up with in the war. It uses dustbins and barrels.

The gek one looks pretty sorted.

Yes Brian ,74 .Lack of power was a problem with some of them but you had a choice of low power or no power because you were rationed to four gallons of petrol per month so if you didn't use gas you stayed home.We made our own charcoal which was time consuming but fairly simple.If you went on a long trip you had to tow a trailer to carry your bags of charcoal.
Some motors ran quite well on it and others left a bit to be desired.
