What...wouldn't eat fish? Are you serious?

Are you saying that fish is a relatively recent addition to the Norse diet ie post 1400's?

I just assumed roo would taste similar other herbivores such as venison especially when feeding on crops.

No I'm not saying that fish wasen't a part of the Norse diet.
The norsemen or vikings that colonised Greenland did so in year 985, and they would not adapt to the local diet they brought along catle etc.

And it was a quote from the article stating, that was the reason they starved to death.
I think it was more complex than that

cheers

Stu, I know that an animal attack can be serious but I couldn't help but laugh at the mental image of the guy fending off a kangaroo with his jigsaw or some similar totally unsuitable tool. It's probably not what happened but it made me laugh.

Not exactly. He was seriously injured but managed to kill the Kangaroo with I think a pick or it may have been an axe, not sure which.

One of my other hobbies is late germanic iron age textiles and clothing, ie viking age. When the norse colonised greenland it was ummm... green. Bringing cattle along was an entirely sensible thing to do.

The problem was it didn't stay green as the climate changed from a warm period (medieval warm period) into a cold period (medieval mini ice age). Certainly the colony failed, eventually (by 1440's), but it has not been proven that the inhabitants didn't adopt the survival strategies of the Inuit.

Thanks Stu. It sounds like that Roo was really pissed about something.
