And here is a simple way that I used the plug hole for the drain and set the water level,

It is a benefit if possible to have a tap on your overflow the other day one of the tomatoes looked a bit down seemed damp enough so i turned off the tap and filled the bed to soil level let it sit for a while before draining you should have seen the air that bubbled up around that plant
that was 2 days ago already the plant looks better

Thats why I sometimes water the top of the bed until water flows out the overflow.

Nice idea chainsaw!!

I was thinking of doing one with a standpipe in the plug like a grow bed. How did you seal your plug?

Now I just need to find people throwing away bath tubs :D

I just cut a hole in the rubber plug pushed the drain pipe through and then siliconed the lot.

If you are planning a commercial sized wicking bed setup you will need a licence from the wicking bed inventer LOL

ccBear you can get slotted ag pipe with socks on; just make sure you pull the sock well out of the way before you use a holesaw to drill a hole for the fill pipe. :)

Yeah it even says on his website that he started looking for healthy food alternatives a few years ago, sheez, I have been using wicking tubs to grow tomatoes for 20 years LOL
