I wonder what the effects of typical drugs would be...
Eg.. the ladies on "the pill".... what effect a build up of hormones.. and the, given the way folk are dropping STATINS for cholesterol....???

I think you would need to think what is actually entering the compost process, and if those additional chemicals break down completely ...
..

Yea... I switched from an iPad to a Samsung Galaxy tab S, and its keyboard is slightly different. Plus its autocorrect is wonky.

As for medications entering the compost, that is why only healthy people should compost their waste. Though, I a wonder about how bad birth control pills would be for compost, perhaps it might be a cheap way to keepthe family from gettingtoo big. ☺

If you are worried about how medications might re-cycle back into your food/drinking water supply, then I would say be more worried about pooping and peeing into a regular sewage/septic system since those do little/nothing about keeping the drugs/pathogens from simply cycling back into the water supplies. The current wastewater treatment generally relies on dilution to keep the pollution from being a problem but they don't guarantee they are successful.

And if you are taking such strong medications that you would not want to risk the compost, then your compost could be used on ornamental plantings so you would also be doing something to keep your waste out of the drinking water supplies.

Really, if you are taking something soooo Toxic that you are worried about it's effects after being processed through your body plus hot composting plus a year just sitting and aging plus being mixed into the soil and possibly being taken up by a plant,....., is this really something you want to be putting through your body int he first place?

Do try to keep things in perspective. I've heard people get all worked up over washing the buckets with some dish soap because they are afraid that some residues of the dish soap might make it through the composting process to be taken up by the plants and then get back into the food supply? Wait a Minute, is this the same dish soap that you wash your dishes with after every meal? I would think the dangers of residues on the dishes you eat off of would be of far more concern than the stuff that might be left in the dirt. (similar goes for medications.)

However, if some one has a farm and plenty of compost materials and the money for the scientific testing and is willing to take these medications of worry and have their waste sampled and tested as well as the compost at different stages plus test the soil mixed with compost at planting and harvest time as well as having a wide array of veggies grown and tested (and of course testing the irrigation water to make sure the residues are not coming from the water supply instead of the compost.) Please by all means go for it. Sorry I can't even afford a mass spectrometer to test my AP water so I'm not volunteering to run the tests even if I did have the time. Oh Not willing to take those kinds of medications either, breastfeeding you know.

Is this a time bomb waiting to happen
For years all the quarantine stuff from Tullamarine airport was bought and buried at sunbury tip
Now with leaching the run off is collected and pumped to a large holding dam on top of the hill overlooking
sunbury from there its pumped into the air on most days to evaporate even on days when the wind is blowing toward sunbury
