Anyone got the answer to stopping slater's from chewing off seedling before they emerge?? My strawberries, which are doing very well, are getting half eaten by slater's too. I know fish like to eat them but there is no way I would be able to catch the all. They live under the gravel and under the vegetation. |

Flood the beds for 24 hours - -this causes way less damage than the slaters do. Remove slaters, repeat 7 days later to remove any new hatchings. |

G'day ozz, missed you by a day down at troutmans the other day. Flooding sounds like a good way. I would have to flood all connecting beds at the same time I suppose, as they would just climb back along to the next bed. |

Cut potatos in halves and place in the beds, come back later and the slaters will be there, remove by hand. sorry but its all I have |

Beer traps work - put small amount of beer in disposable cups, place on top of bed, empty every morning and re-fill. Apparently slaters drink the alcohol and drown. Another gardening suggestion is to place halves of oranges (after squeezing out juice) rim down and collect early in the morning. Apparently slaters hide in the orange peel overnight. |

For new seedlings in bug affected beds (snails, slugs, slaters) I place a ring of Manutec rock dust around the seedlings. The bugs cant crawl / slime over it. Yeah Rick, waved to you when I passed your place on Friday, then Monday |
