I thought you guys might enjoy a couple pics of my recent Leek harvest in a media bed. Roots were so thick I just picked up the whole mass and the media slid off the top. Crazy how thick the roots got! Before harvest ![]() Roots ![]() ![]() Time to make some soup |

Ok Ryan, it looks like you have a leek fixation. One whole bed devoted to leeks with not another plant in site . Those look awfully good, great job of growing |

I love leeks but hasn't had any luck with them in my system. How from seed/seedling to get to that stage? Did you buy seedlings or plant seed directly in GB? |

Thx guys Stuart- Thats about 3.5 months from seed (Directly sown into the bed). I thinned them out about a month and a half ago when they were the size of green onions.

Hmmmm, excellent Ryan. Reminds me that about now I should be planting lots of leeks.. I've been eating leeks more than onions lately, so I should start growing lots. |

DONT pick the leeks out of the bed just cut them off 1 inch above gravel and they will grow back.... you will see the centre starting to grow by later that day or early the next day..... I have cut some leeks 2-3 times so far and even transplanted them after just shallots ..... never pull the whole lot out it will save you a heap of seedling growing time... happy growing... |
